Which one of the following algorithms is used to send large blocks of data across a VPN tunnel?

Which one of the following algorithms is used to send large blocks of data across a VPN tunnel?

Diffie-Hellman

SHA

DES

MD5|||Diffie-Hellman - key exchange

SHA- hashing algorightm

DES - encryption algorithm

MD5 - hashing algorithm

Trick question their all used in VPN. DES is the one possibly encrypting/decrypting so I'd go for that, basically if SHA is right so could MD5 as they can both be used to verify packet integrity ...so can't be that. And Diffie a setup thing so maybe not.

However DES is not secure so Im real dubious.

I think SHA and MD5 is right as the question seems to be referring to data integrity checks (large blocks) if I can have 2 answers otherwise if one answer DES but id really think this is not right, no-one should use it basically its that weak.

What is the difference between a vpn application and a vpn service?

Please elaborate. Thank you.|||A VPN service is one that hosts the VPN server you log into. You obtain an account and then use their server as your VPN end point. An example of this is http://www.surfbouncer.com

A VPN application is the software that runs the VPN. An example of that is http://www.openvpn.net|||The application is what you use to connect to the vpn service. Similar to the difference between a phone and the actual service you buy to allow you to use the phone.

Best way to set up a vpn between mac client and small business network?

I would like to access my business network (2 macs %26amp; 1 PC) from my macbook while traveling on business. The current network has a Linksys RV042 router. I would also like to be able to log into the router remotely. I do not want to use logmein (or similar) for the individual computers but rather connect to the network remotely.|||No easy answer. Is this a client server environment or is your office network peer to peer? What do you need to access certain documents on a server or each individual computer? Why do you need to access the router (do you mean the router's admin page)? Too many questions here to give you an adequate recommendation.

I am able to connect to a VPN Network, but lose my general internet connection. How can I fix this?

I think this has something to do with a setting in the gateway or DNS. I am not sure how to configure this. I am able to use another computer through the same router to connect, so I know its not that. Also, I am able to browse the internet fine after VPN has been shut down. Please Help!|||Right click on the VPN connector in your network connections, click properties. Then click on the networking tab, then click on TCP/IP settings. Once there you should be able to click the ADVANCED tab under that you will find a check box on the "General" tab that says

"use default gateway on remote network"

If the remote network does not supply internet access, uncheck the box and your local gateway will then be used.

How to run a VPN through PuTTY?

I am currently attending a university which allows internet access by opening PuTTY and keeping it open while I surf. If I close PuTTY I no longer have connection to the internet. I am trying to use a VPN and PuTTY at the same time but PuTTY always experiences an error when I open the VPN connection. The issue is not throughput overload. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. If anyone has any experience with this "tunnel within a tunnel" configuration your help would be very appreciated. Thanks!|||Putty sees the local connection drop when the VPN pushes down your new internal address. Since it is a secure SSL connection it drops to prevent interception. There is nothing you can do to change this behavior.|||This is quite confusing, as putty is used for such things like ssh and creating a secure connection to a certain IP. I am guessing that if somehow your internet connectivity is allowed though putty, then a vpn is going to try to use a different port than putty is using..
