Can they break into my VPN if I use unsecured wireless?

My university provides free unsecured wireless, but I use a VPN to access the internet by going through my home computer which is on 24/7. Is there anyway some rogue from the IT department could hack my VPN?|||What VPN are you using? How is it set up? This question can't be answered without some specifics.|||Most likely, if the person knows what they are doing then yes.|||They would really have to know what they are doing.
