Can you use a vpn along with a regular internet connection?

I have to use a VPN to remote into my work. Everytime I start the VPN all of my other active connections (video and downloads) fail. Is there a way to use the VPN only for the remote desktop and leave the other connections alone?|||Not usually. The system you VPN to becomes your only network. They would have to allow tunneling of your other computer traffic into their network, which is a security risk.
